Sunset at Hatteras (OBX Part 1)

After our amazing cruise was over, we still had a little bit left of our honeymoon!  While planning our trip, Mike and I decided to drive to Charleston, South Carolina where we embarked our cruise.  Since we were going to have a car we wanted to take advantage of the rest of the week after we got back to the Port.  Since we had started to really enjoy lighthouses, I decided to research the Outer Banks and found that there were four amazing lighthouses that we would be able to see.  There are really five (plus one replica lighthouse) but the remote location of one of them prevented us from being able to add it to our itinerary.  I guess we will just have to go back, darn! :)

Our cruise had arrived in Port around 6am, therefore, we managed to get off the ship at a reasonable hour and made it to our hotel before sunset.  We stayed in Buxton, North Carolina right down the road from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.  We could actually see the lighthouse from the balcony of our hotel.  I really wanted to take pictures of the most iconic lighthouse on the Outer Banks during the sunset.  So, Mike and I drove to the location and walked along the beach to take some pictures of this amazing structure.

We took a lot more pictures than these, but this is a pretty accurate representation of the sunset.  The colors were even more beautiful in person than in the pictures.  It was definitely an amazing experience and a great way to remember our first time on the Outer Banks.

We also took a lot of videos on our honeymoon, so here is some real-time action of the sunset at Cape Hatteras shot by Mike.

This is the first installment of quite a few posts about our lighthouse adventures on the Outer Banks and the first of three posts about Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
