A Lighthouse a Day, Jan 22 & 23

Today's Lighthouse is Charleston Lighthouse on Sullivan's Island in Charleston, SC

We were close to this lighthouse when we took off from the Port of Charleston on our honeymoon, though with limited time being in the city we were not able to make the trip out to Sullivan's Island. It's also possible that we may have had the opportunity to see this and/or the Morris Island Lighthouse, which marks the other side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor, when the cruise-ship was leaving the harbor but we were most likely familiarizing ourselves with the all the awesome things the ship had to offer! Some quick facts about the lighthouse: it is the last major lighthouse built in the US (as can be seen by its very modern design), the only lighthouse in the US with an elevator, and because of its triangular design with the point facing the ocean can withstand winds of up to 125 mph.

  2. The elevator is pretty cool although I really like the older lighthouse steps! It is quite tall and very different in design but I think it looks quite impressive especially from this view point!
