A few years ago, Mike and I wouldn't have given a second thought to seeing a lighthouse on a television show or a building designed in the shape of a lighthouse. Who am I kidding? We probably wouldn't have even noticed.
But now, it seems as though we have lighthouses on the brain. It's like when you buy a new car (or new to you). Before you buy the car, you barely notice that specific make and model out on the road. Yet, after you buy the car, you start to notice it EVERYWHERE. This is what has happened to us, but with lighthouses.
The other night we were watching an old episode of the TV show "Lobstermen" on Planet Green and we both immediately noticed when the camera panned to a lighthouse. Some of the men (in the few episodes that we have watched I haven't noticed any women working on the boats), are based out of Point Judith, Rhode Island. The lighthouse that we saw on the episode was the Point Judith Lighthouse.
Awhile back, we were watching "Man v. Food" on the Travel Channel and Adam, the host, had traveled to Portland, Maine to try to defeat the local eats. At the beginning of the episode there were a few times that the Portland Head Lighthouse flashed across the screen.
Our friend, Lighthouse Friends, has compiled a list of lighthouses that are in movies. We have seen "Dan in Real Life" and a few of the other movies on the list, but we watched them before we became really interested in lighthouses. We will have to watch them again so that we can see the lighthouses' "cameos".
Noticing lighthouses on TV and in movies, is just the beginning. We notice lawn decorations on other people's yards, buildings shaped like lighthouses and even lighthouses in pictures of the paint aisle in Home Depot! I will leave you with a picture of an object that we wouldn't have noticed before we started visiting lighthouses.
Do you notice lighthouses popping up in random places?
Since you and Mike have become so "lighthouse obsessed" Dad and I notice them all over the place!! Just this past weekend we went by the lighthouse restaurant on the main road and Dad said "there's a lighthouse" We also saw a lighthouse lawn ornament when we were out driving around taking pictures and Dad said "Jamie and Mike need one of those in their yard" ... so yes we "see" them everywhere too!!
ReplyDeleteForgot to add that there is one women that works on one of the lobster boats... I think her name is Rachel. Dad used to work on a boat out of Davisville, RI and he went by the Point Judith lighthouse...he probably really didn't notice it as he worked in the engine room!
ReplyDeleteRachel is on "Lobster Wars" (pretty much the same thing) and we were watching an episode last night. On this episode they were showing Brant Point Lighthouse!
